Target Audience.
Target Audience.
In the audience there are 2 different scales:
Demographic: Their age, gender, nationality. It helps to narrow down the audience.
Psychographic: Breaks down people's individuality. So the way they think and react to things.
Both are coding which are used to sell different products to different types of people, and both are very successfully done.
VALS: Psychographic scale.
A VALS scale looks deeper into people's personalities. The VALS scales can be easily found in advertisement. With VALS you can predict the exact type of product a person would be interested in buying.
As i have researched, each country has a different VALS scale, which makes perfect sense. Because every country has a different set of mind, different people and cultures. You could compare Sweden where the majority of people are upper middle class or middle class and Russia where people are usually lower middle class. All that due to history and governmental treatment.
With our song and created band we have to look at teenage VALS because our age group is 16-20.
In our case our audience could be Utopians, Cynics and a little bit Rebels. The reason for that is because if you look at the original band "The Drums" who's music we are using in our video, they sing a lot about nontraditional relationships (which can apply to Utopians and Cynics), but also a lot of their song judge other people's lifestyles for example rich people and people that show off. They occasionally use swearing and touch very censored topics (which can be a Rebel behavior).
JICNAR: Demographic scale.
The JICNAR scale was created to make as much money as possible. It separates audience into 6 categories. It separates them into their social groups, a lot of it is based on their education level. For example A grade are usually well educated and wealthy people, an example of an A grade person would be a businessman. Meanwhile an E grade would be the exact opposite. This scale may be harsh but it is true and this system works. A lot of the media focus on entertaining the C,D and E grades, because they are the ones to most likely be out of work watching TV and etc.
JICNAR Our Target audience:
In our case I would say our audience would be from D to C1, because our music genre is focused on the age group of 16-20 which is students and teenagers. Students would be most likely to search around on YouTube and find our band. I would say an A grade teenager would be too focused on studies and etc., so music wouldn't be one of their hobbies, however a C1 grade teenager would probably follow what's popular and be very interested in music, especially indie. Our sub genre is Surf music, so its music for people that like to chill out.
