CD digipacks and album artwork
CD Digipak :
Is custom made CD box, that can include 2 CDs, sometimes they have small booklets inside where you can find out information about the artists, their social media. merchandise info and etc. The cover usually states the name of the artist and the name of the album, on the back you can find the names and order of all the songs. CD digipak serves a purpose of defining the genre of the music that the artist presents, it's always something personal to the artist. Not all CD digipaks identify the genre, it all depends on what the artists wants on their cover.
It used to be rare for artists to own a CD digipak since they were quite pricey, but now, almost anyone can make one if they wish.
CD booklets and covers tend to be around 4.75 inches by 4.75 inches and have either 4 or 6 panels.
Album artwork:
Each artist has a different album artwork, like I said before it usually shows the genre that this artist works in. Some albums make it very obvious on what genre they produce, but some are quite random. Some albums clearly indicate the artists because their face is one the cover. All the album work is directed at a certain audience and projects a certain message.
This a n example of a clear genre album cover. Just by looking at the colors black and red you can tell this isn't going to be K-pop or even Indie. This is quite obvious a rock band, and if not rock it could be metal or goth rock. overall the cover is aggressive and is definitely not directed at children.
Looking more into details you can see a guy jumping with a guitar at the back, that shows that this music has electric guitar in it which cuts down a lot of genres as well.
In my opinion this particular album does not indicate the genre well, it could be rock (due to the black background and blood like font), could be rap since we see one guy on the album who could be a solo artist. But this is actually an indie pop band and the guy on the album isn't any of the band members. This is a good example of an album cover representing the actual band itself rather than the genre. They are very "edgy" so is their album cover.
This album cover in my opinion indicates both the genre and the artists himself. It is designed in almost a Van Gogh style with pastel colors. It is very creative an on itself is an art piece. I think it is quite clear and easy to say that this is indie. At the bottom it says Hoizer, that is the name of the artist, as you can see he tried to keep as little text as possible, even his name blends in with the artwork. The man in the middle is Hoizer himself.
