Advanced workshop: editing

Matt sat us all down and recaped us through some basic of premier pro.

Rushes- raw files
Bins- where you seperate files
Sync up
Right click on the clip (rename). Ex wide shot
Describe what’s in the shot and then the shot kind
Really organise all the shots
Don’t rough cut

Order in which you edit a music video:
  • Firstly you Sync the rushes
  • Then cut of just performance
  • Then extra shots
  • Then cleaning up the entire cut
  • Then effects

Rules

1.Listen to the music
Illustrate what you hear, listen to the beat. If for example the singer stops singing and there’s a very obvious guitar bit, cut to the guitarist.
The first line of the song must be a close up of the singer.

2.Group shots together
Put shots in order. For example if you go to a close up of the singer, go to a mid shot of the singer straight after. It helps identify the band and make clear to how each band member contributes to the band.
Otherwise it gets way too confusing and random.

3.Follow the movement
Remember to use leading lines of applicable.

4.Don’t show anyone anything you have edited until you finished.

Aditional information
When editing, a good way to go by is editing by 10 second. Make each 10 seconds the best 10 seconds you have ever edited. Tis breaks down the process and can make it easier to cope with
