Favorite band: Radiohead

Music is a very very important subject for me so I was quite thrilled to write this post.
First of all I don't have a favorite genre of music, it really depends on my mood and I can enjoy any genre and style of music. However I do have a favorite band and that is exactly what this post is going to be all about.

My favorite band is Radiohead. "But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo" you know? An English alternative rock/ house/ indie band formed in 1985, the band members are: Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Ed O'Brien, Colin Greenwood, Philip Selway. Many of their lyrics don't make much sense when you first listen to their songs but actually a lot of them have touched very big political issues. My favorite song by them "Go to sleep" , favorite album " Hail To the Thief".

First of all let me start by telling why Radiohead. I was introduced to Radiohead when I was only 6 years old in my sisters bedroom one cold Russian evening and I absolutely fell in love. I don't really know why, maybe it's because they were my siblings favorite at the time and I just got it from them but regardless I still absolutely adore Radiohead. Many people in their teenage years listened to pop music and maybe some would get into bands like Green Day, twenty one pilots and etc., but not me, I was always into good old depressing Radiohead and all my childhood I couldn't share my obsession with anyone besides my siblings. You see, many many people would call Radiohead too depressing and just weird overall, but for me their music is majestic. I don't judge people who don't like Radiohead because it is defiantly not for everyone, but that's exactly what makes it so special. They are different.

I will now talk a little big about the creator of Radiohead (vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards)
Thom Yorke.

Thom Yorke was born on the 7th of October in 1968, Wellingborough. Yorke got his first guitar when he was just 7 years old and that is when everything started. The first song he ever wrote was called "Mushroom cloud" and it's about explosions, in my opinion that quite explains the style of his further music. In high school he formed a band with the brothers Greenwood and stuck with them, over the years the drummer would change and some other members but Yorke and the brothers are still together.
Thom's famous feature is his half closed eye, he was born with a paralyzed eye and had many surgeries that tried to fix that which left him with a half closed eye. I see it almost as two moods that he is always in, one relaxed and one just crazy Thom.
Thom has two daughters, 17 albums and a wife that unfortunately passed away, which might explain the signature depression in his music. He is almost 50 years old now and is a beautiful, most creative man in my eyes. That is all I have to say about Thom Yorke for now.

Moving on closer to their carrier and music. I personally have purchased a physical copy of one of the albums:

As you can see it's the best of Radiohead, it has two discs with all of their biggest hits, so a lot of music. That is the only physical album I own however I own all of their albums digitally.
Radiohead only 2 years ago released a new album called "Moon shaped pool" and they are still touring with it. In 2017 summer I had the opportunity to get tickets to their concert and see them, but for some strange reason I did not get the tickets. However, my friend did something really nice to me, he had a friend who was going to their concert and asked him (without me knowing) to get me their merchandise. I very much treasure that shirt.

Radiohead have a very stylish and "trippy" website called W.A.S.T.E.

On their site you can find a lot of artwork, merchandise, tour dates,  any kind of news about all the members and just general waste I guess. It might seem strange once you access it but really, everything you need is there and it is listed quite clear.
Radiohead isn't super well known for their music videos, but they are all worth watching. Almost every music video touches some kind of government connected issue, mental issue and etc. I know it sounds gory but they are absolutely beautiful,
here are some examples:

Overall at this point when I am almost 18, I think Radiohead will forever stay my favorite band, since I have my whole childhood connected to it and just lots of other memories.
Along with the political messages Radiohead motivates people to be different and that being
weird = creative, weird is the way to go. It also taught me that feeling sad is normal and expressing any emotion is normal. Radiohead's music doesn't make me sad, which is how many people feel when they listen to them, it makes me feel quite safe and at home, it makes me think. I also think over the years Radiohead in someway toughed me to appreciate sounds in general because Radiohead don't just use regular instruments, they are known for strange sounds, so maybe they are the reason I don't have a specific genre that I enjoy. That is all you need to know about Radiohead and my connection to them.
Thank you for reading.
